Sustainable Careers Hub

What is the Sustainable Careers Hub?

The Sustainable Careers Hub is a research community within the ISM Resilient Futures Institute. It explores one central question: how can people build productive, healthy, and meaningful careers across longer and changing working lives?

People are living and working longer, while technology, demographic change, and new forms of work keep reshaping careers. The hub studies how individuals, organizations, and policy makers can make careers sustainable for everyone, from labor-market entry to retirement and beyond.

At the Sustainable Careers Hub we aim to:

  • produce internationally impactful research on ageing, careers, and longer working lives;
  • develop joint national and European grant proposals with partners in Lithuania and abroad;
  • support doctoral and early-career researchers working on careers and the future of work;
  • share research-based insights with organizations, policy makers, and the public.

Research themes:

  • Careers in a changing world of work: We investigate how digital transformation, hybrid work, AI, and new forms of organizing reshape career paths, workplace inclusion, and opportunities for people to fulfill their potential at different career stages.
  • Sustainable careers for diverse life paths: We study how people navigate careers alongside motherhood, fatherhood, disability, caregiving responsibilities, and other life circumstances, and how organizations can better support inclusive and sustainable career development.
  • Ageing and longer working lives: We study how people navigate late-career employment, retirement transitions, and longer working lives in ways that are meaningful, healthy, and sustainable.
  • Intergenerational relationships at work: We explore intergenerational contact, positive workplace relationships across lifespan, workplace friendships, knowledge sharing, and how organizations can build stronger connections between people of different ages.
