MES: Time for Leaders 3 – Implemented
National research projects
Finished
Goal of the project “Lyderių Laikas” (“Time For Leaders”) is to form the basis for a support infrastructure for leaders in education through development of managerial skills, to create new career opportunities by improving, supporting and liberating the school as well as empowering the education community and its every member.
ISM is responsible for implementation of master study programme in Educational Leadership.
Master study programme in Educational Leadership is intended for teachers and education managers with post-graduation and relevant work experience on which the learning process should build. It is not a teacher-education program, graduates will be prepared to provide leadership as educators, administrators and facilitators of educational change within public and private education organizations and communities.
Education leaders, public and private, need to understand the structures for managing the school and/or organizational environment. These structures include organizational visioning and action planning, marketing and budgeting, and the leadership skills that incorporate instructional design, leading innovative projects, navigating the complexities of human behavior and organizational outcomes from psychological and behavioral perspectives, professional development, evaluation, and an in-depth focus on data-driven decision making in organizations and educational institutions.
Thus, the Programme aims to develop high quality educational leaders who have an understanding and critical appreciation of the theories, tools and techniques of management and leadership to enable them to implement leadership mission for learning more effectively in leading organisations.
On the successful completion of the programme, students can pursue careers in leadership and management positions in public and private education organizations, government, and continue studies on at PhD level.
The Programme was developed and is delivered in cooperation with the international experts of the field prof. Sonia Blanford (Warwick, UK), prof. Louise Stoll (Institute of London, UK), Coleen Jackson (University of Sheffield). The relevance of the Programme is substantiated by the project Time for Leaders (Lyderių laikas, www.lyderiulaikas.smm.lt) research where ISM took an active part (consultations with School principals, teachers, Municapalities’ representatives, high school teachers’ survey results) (available at www.lyderiulaikas.smm.lt), longitudinal study performed during project.
The need and the relevance of the programme can also be demonstrated by the round of meetings Programme students had with the Vice-minister and the Heads of the departments of the Ministry of Education and Science to present their research topics, and later on to discuss the findings of their research.
The extension of Time for Leaders for 2016-2020 and one of its aims “To enhance leadership capabilities of the educational community“ demonstrates the relevancy of the Programme from the point of the main stakeholders- the Ministry of Education and Science.
Educational Leadership Programme is a full-time programme, based on 1,5 years of study and it includes 90 ECTS. 1 ECTS credit consists of 27 study hours.
