Florian Gerth is Professor of Economics at ISM University of Management and Economics. He is an applied macroeconomist whose research focuses on quantitative macroeconomics, monetary and financial economics, business-cycle fluctuations, firm dynamics, productivity, and resource misallocation.

Before joining ISM, Professor Gerth held academic positions at the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines, the University of Wollongong in Dubai, and the University of Kent. Beyond academia, he worked as an economist in the Financial Stability Division of the Central Bank of Ireland and has experience in economic and business consulting. His international career has spanned Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Professor Gerth holds a PhD in Economics and an MSc in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Kent, as well as an MA in International Relations from the University of Wollongong. His research has been published in journals including Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, International Review of Financial Analysis, European Journal of Finance, The B.E. Journal of Macroeconomics, International Review of Economics & Finance, Journal of Futures Markets, Journal of Portfolio Management, Applied Economics, among others. He has also contributed several chapters to Elsevier’s Encyclopedia of Monetary Policy, Financial Markets and Banking and Springer’s Financial Inclusion: In Pursuit of UN SDG 8.10.

His teaching experience spans more than a decade and covers undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, and doctoral education, with particular emphasis on macroeconomics, international economics, econometrics, quantitative economics, business analytics, and statistics. Professor Gerth has received awards for both research and teaching, including the UOWD Excellence in Research Award and the University of Kent’s Best Graduate Teaching Assistant award.
